4 out of 5 stars Reasonable Ruffy Tuffy 'phone   August 11, 2010
Mr. Am Kean (London, UK)
This is the first Nokia toughy phone since my 5140i died. This is quite elegant and not as "lets off-road". It is not 3G (but is quad band GSM) and the interface and performance is very good. I only had to google two items on the menus for explanations. As ever there are a couple of niggles:

1, The strength comes from a brushed metal finish bezel. I cant slip it in a pocked with my glasses like the 5140i with no risk of scratching the lenses as the bezel stands proud of the fascia. It has a good solid feel. I would give it a 3.5/5 Naomi Campbell electronic communication device hurling rating (allegedly).

2, The USB port (not standard, you need a CA-101 cable, about £2.00 on Amazon) is under a soft hinged flap. I think it will break before long

3, You need to remove the battery to get at the micro-SD card. The battery cover is a bit of a poor fit and needs a firm press. However, you do not have to reset the date and time if the battery is removed for a short period of time.

Camera is only 2mp fixed focus. Does have an LED flash. The lumix won't be out of a job yet.

Worth another £30-£40 over a standard one? Let's off road and find out!

5 out of 5 stars The best phone I've ever had!   July 30, 2010

Having had more phones than I care to mention including the Iphone 3GS, this is the best! The call quality is excellent, build quality too, good size, tough but classic design. Battery lasts well too, about 3 days steady use or 2 days heavy use. Reliable as clockwork - forget all these fancy phones that crash, have touch screens and wont make a simple call or send a text. If you want a phone for using as a phone, buy this!

This phone is ideal for use at work, I am an electrician.
The screen is large enough to see clearly whether using the phone functions or internet.
The IP rating is also sufficient for use in wet conditions.

4 out of 5 stars A great phone   June 18, 2010

I wanted a rugged SIM free phone and I bought this on the basis of the youtube videos of the phone being mistreated and the reviews here on Amazon. I have had the phone for about a month and I am really pleased with it. The phone works well and having a camera, radio and mp3 player as well is very useful. They all work well.

I have a SIM only contract with Orange and so far I have been unable to get the phone to connect to the Orange data service so that I can use the browser. Searching using google comes up with others who have had the same problem and some have solved it. It seems to be a problem with configuring the phone to connect Orange's data. The Nokia manual is not clear and does not describe all the options there are. The data options occur in a number of different menus so the setup seems confusing to me. At some point I will need to ask Orange for help. Hence I have rated this as 4 stars rather than 5. However, having a web browser on the phone was a bonus and not why I bought he 3720.

The plastic / rubber cover at the bottom of the phone that protects the USB connector and audio jack is a bit fiddly to remove and replace but that is a minor point.

All in all a good phone at a good price.

3 out of 5 stars Pro's and con's   June 8, 2010

After many horrendous trials and tribulations actually trying to get this phone (from both Amazon and Prepaymania) I can only comment on a few technical drawbacks- Annoying lack of a 'fully charged alert', so basically you don't know when the phone is fully charged or not, no peep, nothing. Predictive text is a bit naff, you can't do a group delete for unwanted text messages, the 'star' and 'hash' buttons are a bit fiddly to use due to keyboard layout. Battery only lasts TWO and a bit days. User guide, brief, somewhat lacking in detail (some screen icons absent!).

Apart from that, overall, it's a good robust and basic phone for those of us who aren't into 'gadget porn'..Internet access very good and fast. Nice bright screen. My last Nokia lasted me a good 7yrs so I'm hoping this will have as long a life too and at least get me through the coming Second Great Depression!
